This simple war rug appears to be a beginners work. The knots are very uneven and there are several design glitches. An example is the vertical vine motif. There is a wide range of warp depression, which indicates someone with limited technical experience. The rug is charming in its simplicity. The design is reminiscent of a ""Two Ewer"" rug, without the ewers. The Farsi writing on the side of the tanks, usually reads ""tank tank"" but this example is beyond illegible. There is edge roll on the left corners. This happens when the weft are pulled too tight and corners roll under. This example is not serious.
The color is pleasing. It is muted and harmonious.
Wool: The wool in this rug is middle grade. It has a slightly sharp feel and is not evenly trimmed. All these factors point to an inexperienced weaver. Sheen: Sheen is fair. Handle: Handle is floppy and irregular Selvedge: The selvedge is coarse and loose, overcast braided goat hair.
Fringe: The fringe is preceded by plain weave. The plain weave is natural warp crossed with an almond colored wool weft. It is nice. The fringe is secured by overhand knots of many warp. Pile: Wool. Full pile. 5mm deepWarp: Warp is 2Z mill spun natural colored woolWeft: Weft is light grey cotton.
Warp Depression:Some to none
