The condition of this new war rug is good. This is an Afghan war rug that was washed using a special technique in Pakistan before it was shipped to us. It has lovely abrash to it and the wool is finer than most.
The use of a symmetrical pattern is well done with the added touch of grenades only at the bottom suggesting that the weaver miss calculated the size. This lends to the appeal of the traditional tribal form of weaving used by the nomads in Afghanistan. A real plus for collectors and non-collectors alike.
Wool: The finer wool used is smooth, thick, and dense. It is a little dry from the special washing technique used. Sheen: There is little sheen right now which is typical in new war rugs and will improve over time as the wool oxidizes. Handle: The handle of this war rug is solid, strong, and firm. Selvedge: The selvedge consists of 2 cord brown wool.
Fringe: The 1/4 inch fringe has a 1 inch kilim brown wool densely done with Persian closure. Pile: Wool 6mm.Warp: White Cotton.Weft: Natural brown wool.
Warp Depression:75 degrees
