Tribe: Baluchi
This rug is in new condition and is unused. The wool is shaggy and new. The exact location depicted in these bridge rugs is unknown (if you know please contact us). This rug is the only night time version. The sky is a extremely dark blue which verges on black. The bridge structure is rendered in red on black with dark grey cables. It is an artistically creative way to render an urban night scene. Traditonal Baluchi motifs fill the sky and sparkle like stars.
Wool: New. Each color has its own texture and it cut to a slightly different length. Sheen: As with many new rugs of average quality the sheen is underdeveloped. Handle: More rigid than most Baluchi rugs, but still pretty floppy. Selvedge: Well done brown goat hair braided overcast.
Fringe: Like many of the rugs of this batch, the kilim ends appear to have been removed leaving the remaining fringe kinky from where it had been woven into kilim. I suspect, and it has been suggested to me, that this kilim reduction is particular to Pakistani finishing of Afghan carpets. The Afghan finish appear to leave kilim ends more intact. Pile: 7mmWarp: Half very dark brown wool, half tan wool. Division is roughly in the middle of the carpet.Weft: Grey cotton.
Warp Depression:Mostly flat, very flat war; angle.
